When Science Meets Art
Telling Climate Change Stories, One Comic at a Time
 
Everyday Stories of Climate Change looks at how low-income families in Bolivia, Puerto Rico, Barbuda, South Africa, and Bangladesh respond and adapt to climate change. Dr. Gemma Sou (RMIT University), Adeeba Nuraina Risha (BRAC University), and Dr. Gina Ziervogel, AXA Award at the University of Cape Town, wrote the stories based on their field research that recognized students learn and discuss climate change differently. The comic aims to put a human face on issues and give people a sense of agency, meaning they are capable of acting, and hope that they can adapt to climate change

An Immersive Journey Into the World of Cell
 
Cell Worlds takes us on a visual, musical, and narrative journey through the most stunning microscopy images of human cells. Prof. Mickaël Tanter, AXA Chair in Physics for Medicine and Biology, and Dr. Alexandre Dizeux from Physics for Medicine Paris were among the 25 research teams involved in the project to take microscopy images beyond laboratories and closer to the general public through an art exhibition, a documentary, and music specifically composed for the project.

Hereditary Factors That Increase the Likelihood of Cancer Mutations
 
Prof. Ben Lehner, AXA Chair at the Centre for Genomic Regulation, Barcelona, has conducted a study that reveals 42 hereditary genes predisposing individuals to a higher number of mutations that correlate with a greater probability of developing cancer. The research may lead to new personalized prevention and early cancer detection strategies.

Prof. Franck Courchamp, AXA Chair at the University of Paris Sud, has co-authored a study that provides a novel, clear understanding of costs that should serve as the foundation for sound decision and policy making.
